The Red Viper Vs. The Mountain That Rides. A 12 Page Comic

I’ve been kicking around an adaptation of this scene from A Storm Of Swords since I first read it two years ago. At first it was 3 pages then 6. I thought 10 would definitely do it. Well it turns out 12 pages was the ticket. Prince Oberyn Martell, The Red Viper of Dorne is a character who is hard not to like. Very excited to see this bit play out in Season 4 of Game of Thrones. If anyone is interested I have the original art for sale HERE!RV_spoiler_redux_web

RED VIPER VS. THE MOUNTAIN REDUX PROCESS

Clearing out a few major projects so my mind drifts back to THE RED VIPER and THE MOUNTAIN fight scene I’ll be doing over the next few weeks for /r/ASOIF. I’ve decided to start over from scratch rather than build on this first page I did year or so ago. This short will more than likely be 6-8 pages. These are character sketches for  The Red Viper and The Mountain. I’m liking where these are going. rv

THE TOWER OF JOY: An Adaptation

I was one of those guys. Never heard of A Song of Ice and Fire prior to watching season one of A Game of Thrones. I watched season one half a hundred times and decided that season two needed to start immediately. I bought the nice four book set and proceeded to crack open A Clash of Kings and burn all the way through to A Dance With Dragons in a few short months.

Only then did I go back and read A Game of Thrones.  I missed a bunch of great little scenes. None greater than the Tower of Joy. It’s a beautiful little scene that I think is Just about a page and a half and yet it is probably one of the most talked about scenes in the series. I loved it from my first read through and just couldn’t help but turn it into a short little comic like I’m wont to do.

I’ve done a little math and if I started at the beginning of the series and took four pages to adapt every page and a half of text it would takes me 22 years to work up to The Winds of Winter.

The Red Viper vs. The Mountain page 1 of 3

I asked the Game of Thrones community over at reddit.com to vote on what character they would like to see illustrated. The overwhelming response wasn’t a character but a scene: Prince Oberyn Martell vs. Ser Gregor Clegane.  The Red Viper vs. The Mountain. What I’ve got here is probably one of three pages I see for this scene. A Storm of Swords, the third novel in  GRRM’s opus A Song of Ice and Fire is so far my favorite. George has me digging fantasy for the first time. This page is spoiler light, but the next one won’t be. Stay tuned!
