I’ve been kicking around an adaptation of this scene from A Storm Of Swords since I first read it two years ago. At first it was 3 pages then 6. I thought 10 would definitely do it. Well it turns out 12 pages was the ticket. Prince Oberyn Martell, The Red Viper of Dorne is a character who is hard not to like. Very excited to see this bit play out in Season 4 of Game of Thrones. If anyone is interested I have the original art for sale HERE!
Well done. Love your Tyrion, too. Properly misshapen.
Awesome
Well done! I love how drastic you made their size differences. My image of the mountain was always a wall of human flesh you’d have to tilt your head up to just to get an idea that what you were looking at was a person.
According to the books he is supposed to be over 8 feet tall and over 30 stone (which is 420+ pounds). So yeah. The dude is a freaking wall of flesh. In full plate he would be even more intimidating.
The actor playing the mountain, Hafthor Julius Bjornsson, is 6’9″ 420 pounds. He isn’t far off of what was written. The man is a monster that can probably do everything he pretends to in the show.
Just reading it in the books was crazy intense, but this was fantastic. You captured my imagination of the scene. Well done! Will there be more?
AWESOME!!!!
You should be doing the Dynamite comics…not Patterson. This is AWESOME!
That is bad ass.
Ser Gregor “The Mountain That Rides” Clegane vs The Prince Oberyn Nymeros Martell.
Prince Oberyn Martell talks too much. The Mountain is too big to be any man’s toy.
My respect to The Mad Dog of House Lannister.
that man deserves no respect
You obviously didn’t get it. His entire point was to get a confession from the Mountain, that’s why he fought him to begin with. With the confession he would have what he needed to go to war with Tywin Lannister and the Iron Throne and be backed by the 7 kingdoms.
Brilliant!
Love it

So, this is amazing, I crave more.
Very nice…
My favorite bit is the look of shock and very real fear on Oberyn’s face and that he struggles in vain for his life when the Mountain grabs him right at the end. The Red Viper easily could be portrayed as an unwavering defiant caricature of vengeful wrath right up to the end and probably has been before, however this cartoonist gives us something rather different and in my opinion considerably more interesting. Their Oberyn Martell is suddenly confronted with the price he is going to have pay for the confession and vengeance for his murdered sister and realises in the last seconds of his life that he really doesn’t want to pay that price…
…but it is already too late!
Totally true!

Brilliant choice (re: the scene), this was undoubtedly the high point of the book for me, even more so when you find out that the Mountain is going to die, slowly….. (sadistic snicker”
nice work, sir!
do you plan on doing other GoT events like the purple wedding?
Nice job, Jeff. One of my favorite battles in Game of Thrones. Keeps me on the edge of my seat and breaks my heart. Brilliant.

Wow! This is awesome! I loved that fight in the book, I hope they managed to portray it as good as your comic in the tv show. Congratz man! I hope you’ll do more like this
Amazing adaptation! I read Storm of Swords some weeks ago and since then I was wondering how it would be a comic adaptation of such an intense moment… When I read it, this was the song that came to my mind, and you bring me the oportunity to fullfil my wish! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZFcawd5Q_Y
Great choice in music! Berserk is pretty much the Japanese equivalent of A Song of Ice and Fire.
thank you very much ,very good job amazing illustrations :D!

I stumbled on this looking for images from the upcoming GOT season. But I found it to be more than just a good palate cleanser. I read a lot of comics and the Red Viper is one of my favorite characters in the series. Pity this is his one chance in the spotlight. Yet it’s is still one of my favorite scenes. Well adapted.
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is more than awesome!
Right…now show the stupid mountain slowly dying of the poisin the awesome RED VIPER injected him with. The mountain is a d*ushbag. Cant wait till he dies a slow painful death worse than Joffrey’s. =)
Have a nave day. Put that in your comics a-hole =)
What the f@ck is your problem! . If you want to comment on who made the comic, then do it in the right place!

This is brilliant, good sir.
Give this man some gold from the iron bank!
Holy crap this is amazing. Great work.
Martin is good at going against the emotions of his reader. First I was disappointed when Dog beat Dandarion. Then this episode of Martell losing to the Mountain. Somehow it makes you hate both the writer and the character and in order to see the just ending, you keep reading.
I couldn’t wait two weeks and read it 😀

Huge Spoiler for Game of Thrones S04E8 and further…
If yo just can’t wait two weeks for the next episode. This is a comic adaptation from the book. See what happens in the epic battle between the Red Viper and the Mountain.
This is brilliant!! thank you
I can’t believe Oberyn died like this…
WTF ! this actually happen in the book? , i was searching for the new episode and i get here , fantastic job! is like i already see it. Thanks
I remember I hadn’t read the books, and I was only just starting to watch season 2 about 2 years ago, but I read through this comic without any foreknowledge of what it meant. As we approached this scene, I began to remember the comic, and I wish I hadn’t. But now, I just had to spoil it for myself. WONDERFUL COMIC. so good. I hate that stupid mountain.
Amazing, the color gives much more life, I love it, you are really fantastic 😉

You should definitely consider taking on a comic book version of GoT
wow, tyrions (blowing) nose-chunks, are perfect
Hats off to you sir, A truly incredible perspective of things….
Right on!
Superb. More please!
This is awesome, although I am so glad I waited until after the show aired to see this.
I love your comic of the fight! It is amazing!!
When confronted by Prince Oberyn Nymeros Martell (the brother of Princess Elia Martell), who repeatedly asserts that “Her name was Elia of Dorne. You raped her, you murdered her, you killed her children,” Gregor’s only concern (besides killing him) is that the man has gotten the order of events wrong.
“Her name was Elia of Dorne. First, I killed her screaming whelp. Then I raped her. Then I smashed her fucking head in. Like this.”
This is awesome! 10 times better than the Game of Thrones episode. I would read the hell out of this comic.
So much better than the overly gory screen adaptation. Despite still being killed for his… arrogance?…, this actually makes me feel like the Red Viper has some dignity left by the moment of his demise. By leaving out all the screaming and the torment, while not omitting the shock and the sudden realisation what a fool he was, you give him the death this truly outstanding character deserves.
Thank you. You managed to ease the pain of a fan’s heart.
I agree. Glad to here another fan of the book was disappointed with the recent episode and prefers this version. I was beginning to think I was the only one.

Did I see his brain fly out? That was great, detailed work, dude! More?
What can I say? This is just perfect, exactly how I imagend it.
Thank you for putting images to one of the most greatest moments i’ve ever read in my life.
wow.. this is awesome…. Good Work… i wish u could make the entire novel into comic strips…may be u get a contract of such and we can read tht 1-2-3 yrs from now.. all the best 😀
Great work! I like this far better than HBO’s version of the fight. I thought the writers of the episode left out some key lines from the book that really changed the entire feel of the scene. Whereas, you nailed Oberyn’s attitude and the dialogue. Wish HBO had followed your example! Amazing comic.
